We want you
to be a hero
of the hallways

Cerritos Roadrunners are looking for dads, grandpas, uncles, and other father figures to spend one day at school. You do not need a special skill. You just need to show up.

One day can make a big difference

Dads Of Great Students

What a WatchDOG does

WatchDOGS is a national program that brings fathers and father figures onto campus for a day. Your presence helps our students feel supported, connected, and proud to have their families involved at school.

  • Greet students

Be the first high five at drop-off. It sets the tone for a kid's whole day.

  • Help in classrooms

Read with a small group, hand out materials, or just be another patient adult in the room.

  • Assist during lunch

Open stubborn yogurt lids, wipe tables, and keep the cafeteria moving.

  • Join students at recess

Four square, wall ball, or refereeing a very serious game of tag.

  • Be an extra set of eyes and ears

A visible adult in the hallways makes the whole campus safer.

  • Be a positive role model

For your own Roadrunner and for the kids who do not have someone showing up.

Not ready to pick a day?

Get on the list

Leave your name and we will email you when Tuesdays still need covering, when new dates open up, and when the program has news. No date required today.

What to expect

Your day, start to finish

No experience needed and no preparation required. Here is everything that happens between signing up and going home.

  1. Pick a Tuesday

Find a yellow square on the calendar and choose the morning or afternoon shift. You get a confirmation email with a calendar invite and, at no extra charge, a terrible dad joke.

  2. Check in at the front office

Arrive at the start of your shift, get your visitor badge and WatchDOGS shirt, and pick up a printed schedule for the day.

  3. Be a hero of the hallways

Greet kids, help in classrooms, eat lunch with your Roadrunner, and play at recess. Then go home and take a nap.

Before you ask

Common questions

Still stuck on something? Email the coordinator and you will get a real answer from a real person.

Do I have to be a dad?

No. Dads, grandpas, uncles, stepdads, big brothers, and any positive father figure in a student's life are all welcome.

What do I wear?

Comfortable clothes and shoes you can walk and play in. You will be on your feet, and recess is part of the job. You will get a WatchDOGS shirt to wear on your day.

What if I can only do part of a day?

That is exactly why there are two shifts. Pick the one that fits, and note anything else in the comments box when you sign up.

What if something comes up?

Life happens. Email the coordinator as soon as you know so the day can be opened back up for another volunteer.

Can I sign up for more than one day?

Please stick to one day per semester so that everyone who wants to participate gets a chance. If slots are still open later in the semester, we will email the list of previous WatchDOGS to ask if anyone can fill the gaps.
